The Mind Forgets

The Mind Forgets
I struggled to wake up. In my groggy state I realized no one
had fed the cats! Stumbling thru the
house trying not to wake my brother in the guest room I headed by instinct to
the door nearest the garage. I knew they would be congregating, wondering where
I was with their “one meal a day deal”. We lived in the woods where people
sometimes dropped their unwanted pets to fend for themselves. One such pregnant
Siamese had been left in that circumstance and had three beautiful white
kittens. I couldn’t leave a lady in distress. They were wild, but the deal was they
got one meal a day and thereafter had to hunt snakes and other edible
arrangements to stay alive around here! This was a working ranch!
As I pushed the garage door open and saw the beautiful blue
sky emerge with amazing white cloud formations, I thought what a beautiful day
it was going to be. The first hint of fall was in the air instead of the usual
summer heat and humidity. Without thinking I spoke out and turned to my husband,
“Honey, we can have our coffee out here today!”
Suddenly another voice straight out from the clouds came
booming into my consciousness. “Stop it, I forbid you to speak to the dead. He
is with me and I am with you.”
In shock, my brain reeled with the truth of that statement!
I had been praying for weeks to hear a word of encouragement or direction from
God. Days turned into months, putting one foot in front of the other in
automated stupor. Life as I had known it suddenly screeched into reality again. My husband was gone but My Lord was not!
2 Corinthians 5:8
We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent
from the body, and to be present with the Lord.
Wherefore we labor, that, whether present or absent, we may
be accepted of him.
